Nithya Raman Widens Her Lead Over Karen Bass in L.A. Mayor’s Race

The L.A. mayor’s race has shifted – and Nithya Raman’s lead over incumbent Karen Bass is widening.

In the latest reported tally, Raman has 405,193 votes or 52 percent, to Bass’s 379,069 votes, or 48 percent. Raman’s lead over Bass has now grown by 26,124 votes, up from a margin of about 16,600 in the count reported Wednesday morning.

Bass led in the first results released on election night; however, Raman moved ahead as additional ballots were counted early Wednesday.

The race has not been called, and the count is still underway.

According to Los Angeles County, the results are preliminary while ballots continue to be processed and verified, including vote-by-mail ballots postmarked by Election Day and received within seven days.

Still, Raman is being viewed as the favored candidate as later-counted ballots in California often include younger, more progressive voters.

That dynamic also played out in June’s primary, when Raman gained ground in the days after Election Day and moved past Spencer Pratt.

Bass could still draw enough support from her base to secure a second term. Until all the ballots are counted, Los Angeles will be left waiting to see whether Raman’s advantage holds – or continues to grow.
