On Wednesday at 1 pm ET, Apple is expected to cap off its Pro and Tell week of announcements with the launch of its first truly new laptop in years and a milestone for the Mac: the first-ever touchscreen MacBook Pro with a new design, a new display, and a new price tag.

As with the past few Apple announcements, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman has spilled some final details about the new device, most notably the price. According to his sources, Apple has “discussed” charging as much as $2,899 for the new 14-inch model with an M5 Pro chip, essentially a $400 premium over current M5 Pro model, which comes with 24GB and 1TB. Apple offers two varieties of the M5 Pro chip, with an 18-core variant commanding a $200 premium.

Rumors suggest the options for the new laptops will be the same as the current crop but won’t replace them. Rather, they’ll exist as premium options alongside the existing models. It’s not clear whether they’ll offer the same RAM and storage tiers, however.

Gurman has previously reported that the touchscreen MacBook Pro will offer several upgrades over the current model, including:

  • An OLED display with thinner bezels;
  • A new design that’s “significantly” lighter than the current crop;
  • A new hinge that doesn’t move when tapped; and
  • A new cooling system that improves airflow through the hinge.

The new laptops will also feature a new version of macOS Golden Gate that “includes dial-like menus that appear around a user’s finger.” However, Gurman says Apple will market the touchscreen as an option rather than a replacement for the trackpad.

In a follow-up post on X, Gurman wrote that Mac fans should “Get excited” for the new laptop. And believe me, we are.
