(KRON) -- A Santa Rosa man is facing charges after authorities said he crashed his pickup truck into a bicyclist, killing her, and then fled the scene. Daniel Kain, 29, was found and arrested more than a week after the deadly collision.
On the night of Sept. 27, a person reported to authorities that they had run over a bicycle lying in the middle of Guerneville Road in Sonoma County, according to the California Highway Patrol. The following morning, around 7:44 a.m., a woman’s body was located in a ditch more than a mile away to the west on Guerneville Road, near Frei Road.
CHP believed the bicycle was connected to the death investigation of the woman. Investigators later determined that the woman had been walking with or riding the bicycle when she was struck by a white Ford Ranger traveling eastbound.

“Investigators believe the bicycle was involved in the earlier crash and was subsequently moved more than one mile east of the original crash location, either after becoming entangled with the suspect vehicle or by being intentionally moved,” CHP wrote.
A Santa Rosa community member later reported to authorities that they spotted a damaged Ford Ranger parked on Pawnee Street. The truck was allegedly connected to the suspect driver, Kain.
