TODAY

Sunshine returns across central Indiana, but do not let the bright sky fool you into expecting much warmth. Highs only reach the middle 50s this afternoon, making this one of the chilliest days we have had so far this fall. North to northeast winds run around 5–10 mph. At least the wind will be considerably lighter than Friday, and with completely dry conditions, it should still be a decent day outdoors if you dress for it.

TONIGHT

This is the main weather story of the weekend. Clear skies and nearly calm winds create an ideal setup for temperatures to drop quickly after sunset, with lows falling into the lower to middle 30s around Indianapolis. Widespread frost is expected toward Sunday morning, and some locations farther north and east could briefly fall below freezing. A Frost Advisory covers much of central Indiana, while a Freeze Warning is in effect across northeastern portions of the area. Sensitive plants that are still outside will need protection.

TOMORROW

Frost may still be around early in the morning, but sunshine takes over quickly and helps temperatures recover. Highs reach the lower 60s with winds becoming southerly around 5 mph during the afternoon. It is still a cool day, but compared with Saturday it should feel noticeably better once we get into the afternoon.

TOMORROW NIGHT

Clear skies continue with another chilly night ahead. Lows fall into the upper 30s around Indianapolis with light southeast winds around 5 mph or less. Some patchy frost may develop again in colder locations, although temperatures should be a little warmer than Saturday night.

MONDAY

The warming trend becomes more noticeable to start the workweek. Expect another day filled with sunshine and highs reaching the upper 60s. Winds stay very light, generally around 5 mph or less. There is still no rain anywhere in sight, so Monday looks like a very pleasant fall afternoon once we get past the chilly morning.

MONDAY NIGHT

Mostly clear and cool with lows in the lower 40s. Winds become nearly calm and dry conditions continue.

TUESDAY

Sunshine keeps rolling while temperatures finally climb back into the lower 70s. Winds remain light from the east to northeast around 5 mph. After the cold weekend, Tuesday should feel considerably milder without becoming unusually warm.

7 DAY FORECAST

Saturday is the coldest afternoon of the stretch, followed by widespread frost and some localized freezing temperatures Saturday night into Sunday morning. From there, temperatures steadily recover from the lower 60s Sunday to the upper 60s Monday and lower 70s Tuesday and Wednesday.

The bigger-picture forecast is remarkably quiet. Sunshine and dry weather dominate through the entire workweek, with highs eventually reaching the middle 70s Thursday and Friday while overnight temperatures gradually become less chilly.
